Every time in the history of Israel
when God was opening that Israel has to take any territory to posses – there
was a certain order before to do anything – bring sacrifice to the Lord and
then, as they enter that land - destroy all idols of that land.
Idol – it is something that strong
on that territory and rules over that territory.
Why God hates idols?
-He is a Creator and He only – not idols
-He wants to rule
-Idols – is a creation of men’s hand and it can’t
give the future
Idol was always symbol of something
that people needed, but God, giving His commandments said very clear: Exodus
20:2-3
Idols always opposite to God!!!
Exodus 34:11-17
God wants to be the Lord of our
lives!!!
Idol – it is something that always
wants to displace God from being Lord of your life.
How God wand to be a Lord of my life today:
-Live by His principles and truth
-Have time to spend with Him and Him only
-To be the only passion of my life
-To please Him and Him only
What idols do we have today:
-Comfort and Laziness (money, better job, house,
car, state of health, food, pleasure, rest etc …)
-Families and kids (Matt. 10:34-38)
-Our lust (lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes,
proud)
God is not against it – He wants us to have even more, but against
when all of these become our idols…
We don’t notice when
desires of all these idols becomes our desires and we start serve to these
idols instead serve the Lord!!!
How?
-I cant pray at night – I need to work tomorrow
-I have no time to pray and read the Bible – I
work too much
-I have no time for the church – I have my job
-I cant serve God – I need to pay my bills
-I cant do the same – my family needs me
-My family needs a better conditions – I have to
work more and I have 5 -10 min only to pray
-I will change the church – my kids don’t have
fun here
-I am tired – I can’t pray at nights
This is the problem of our mindset and sacrifice only can
destroy this mindset. This mindset becomes your trap which devil will always
use to lead you far from God and His Lordship in your life.
This mindset can be destroyed by sacrifice that we do for
God!!!
It could be anything that is opposite to your desires and
you do it to please God:
-Your time with God
-Offering of anything, but it has to affect your
heart (good deeds, money, praise …)
-Your service to the Lord, even thou you are busy
How to know that it is a sacrifice for you – it will require
your efforts and selfrejection – it would be anything your idols don’t like.
